Rules and Regulations

Children’s Division group home facilities use various methods of confinement for occupants and therefore require the use of different rules, code chapters and sections depending on their facility type. Some of these facilities require using locked doors to prevent the occupants from leaving the facilities on their own, while others only require locked doors for incoming visitors. Different chapters of NFPA 101, 2000 Edition are applied depending on the type of facility that is being inspected. Generally all fire alarms, fire extinguishers, exits, automatic fire suppression systems, housekeeping, door locking systems and building conditions are closely inspected. Residential youth facilities, youth day facilities, and group foster homes are inspected annually by the Fire Safety Inspection Unit.
